Welcome to Premier School of Building (PSB) est. 1999

We specialise in providing short courses by distance learning to the construction industry. The courses are mainly single subject and competence based, designed for mature students who prefer to study at home or in the workplace. Each single subject short course is designed to be completed in about three months but this will depend on the students previous knowledge and ability.

To meet students requests combined courses have been developed incorporating four or more single subject short courses, an example being the 'Diploma in Architectural Development' which comprises seven single subject short courses plus Project Work.

Company profile
Premier School of Building is a correspondence school established in 1999 offering single subject short courses by distance learning for most managerial positions within the construction industry. A member of the Association of British Correspondence Colleges (ABCC) the school was established when it took over the construction courses from 'Construction Tutorials'.

Premier School of Building has students in over thirty countries from Germany to Australia and Fiji. We also offer in-house training to clients in the UK, Middle-East and Far-East, organising and managing in-house training programmes to suit both employer and employee needs within the industry.

Our Mission
At Premier School of Building we believe that for many mature students especially those who are in work or do not have access to a local college, distance learning courses are the best and most economical method of studying. This is why Premier School of Building have developed a range of single subject short courses and combined courses that will assist students to attain their desired level of competence, which they can demonstrate within their professional life regardless of their membership of professional institutes.

Premier School of Building and Charitable Organisations
It is the policy of Premier School of Building to work with and assist charitable organisations with development projects both in the UK and overseas. Premier School of Building will actively offer assistance to charities and other organisations with regard to individual or group development especially within developing countries.

Exemptions & the Student Information Portfolio (SIP)
Many students enroll for a short course and on completion re-enroll for further courses after they have experienced the advantages of distance learning.

Students who wish to study for a combined diploma may be able to receive exemptions if they have previously obtained awards in similar subjects, but must apply in writing with evidence.

All students who study with the school are required to develop their own Student Information Portfolio (SIP) as they progress through their studies.

Assessment Criteria
These are no examinations incorporated within the schools assessment criteria for any subject. Assessment is continuous and is based on students submitting their work for comments and grading. Grades of A, B, C, D and E are awarded ranging from excellent work (A) to re-submit (E), but this grade is very seldom needed.

Accreditation of PSB courses and Diploma's
PSB specialise in single subject short courses and over the last 2 years new courses have been written by chartered surveyors to meet industry's needs. It is not the policy of PSB to seek accreditation from any professional institute as we consider that due to the wide range of our courses none of the existing bodies are capable of undertaking such a task.

PSB is a correspondence school and is not involved in NVQ's, GNVQ's, site visits, CSCS skill assessments nor do our courses carry UCAS / CATS points.

On completion of a course a Premier School of Building Diploma is awarded based upon work submitted on a continual assessment basis, there are no PSB examinations.

Course Material
Generally consisting of a manual and text book and in the case of Construction Technology several drawings. PSB considers that the course content is self contained and the purchase of additional books is unnecessary. The Architectural and Building Drawing course and the Draftsmanship course require the students to have access to a drawing board and instruments or alternatively CAD may be used.

There are no entry requirements for any of our basic level courses marked * but students are advised that pre-requisite courses are recommended for courses marked ** and *** . Contact PSB to clarify your specific requirements.
